About the Choir
Welcome to The Ingleheart Singers…..
With a passion for the unaccompanied voice, we have specialized in collecting a cappella music from all corners of the world with a strong emphasis on Cornish music which we love to share at pubs and venues around the county.
Who?
The choir is open to anyone living in Cornwall! The aim of the choir is to bring people together from all walks of life, regardless of musical background, to learn to sing unaccompanied and in harmony. We want it to be as accessible as possible and all members of the local community are welcome. No auditions are held and there is no need to read music as everything is taught ‘by ear’.
What will we sing?
Each session will begin with a thorough vocal warm up and include some physical stretches. Claire will then teach a range of songs including gospel, folk, world and contemporary. Sometimes you will sing the main melody, sometimes a harmony. If you don’t know if you are an alto, soprano tenor or bass, don’t worry as you will have the opportunity to try any section out. Once you find your comfortable range, it is better to stay in the same section each week.
Where?
Troon Primary School, near Camborne, Cornwall. TR14 9ED
When?
The choir rehearse every Monday during school term time from 5.30-7.30pm. The cost is £4 per session with no joining or termly fees.
What about gigs?
We have been very fortunate with gigs so far and have performed at the Hall for Cornwall, The Eden Project, Lander Gallery, Acorn Arts Centre Penzance, Heartlands, Truro Cathedral and Krowji, as well as many other venues across the county. On two occasions we have sung as part of the huge theatrical events ‘100 The Day Our World Changed’ and ‘Souterrain’ with the theatre company, Wild Works.
There is no obligation to join in for gigs and indeed, some folk prefer to be in the audience, at least that’s what they say to begin with!
Repertoire?
We have a large repertoire of songs that you will need to gradually catch up on. There are several practice CDs available to buy, with each part separated out and one CD will be given to you free when joining. Lyrics can be downloaded from our drop box, photocopied from other members or emailed to you.
